Virtual Office in Tanzania: Addresses, Legal Use and Costs (2026)

virtual office in Tanzania — Wezoo

A virtual office is an address, not a room. In Tanzania that distinction matters more than it does in most markets, because the word most people type into Google here is not “virtual office” at all: it is “PO box”. Those are two different things, and only one of them comes with a staffed building behind it.

This guide covers what a virtual office actually gives you in Tanzania, where the addresses are, what they cost, what you still have to check for yourself before you use one on a registration form, and who should be looking at a physical office space in Tanzania instead.

What you get with a virtual office in Tanzania — and what you do not

Strip away the marketing and a virtual office is three things: a street address in a real building, a right to use that address for your business, and a staffed reception that handles what arrives there. Everything else varies by provider.

Both Tanzanian addresses on Wezoo sit in commercial buildings in Dar es Salaam that are run as serviced workspace, with reception staff on site during business hours. That is the part that separates a virtual office from a post office box: there is a building, there are people in it, and visitors who turn up at the address find a staffed front desk rather than a wall of metal boxes.

What the listings themselves confirm is the physical side of each address: how you get there, where you park, whether there is a lounge or catering on site, and whether the building has breakout space you can use when you do need to sit down. Those details are listed per address further down.

What our inventory does not tell you, and we are not going to pretend otherwise: mail handling, mail scanning, parcel acceptance and telephone answering are not recorded as services on either Tanzanian address. In practice most serviced buildings offer some form of mail handling, but the specifics (whether post is scanned or held, whether parcels are signed for, whether calls are answered in your company name, and what any of it costs) are set by the operator of the building and agreed when you make the request. Ask about them explicitly. Do not assume a package of services that nobody has quoted you.

And the plainest limitation: a virtual office does not give you a desk. You cannot work from it daily, you cannot seat a team there, and you cannot store equipment in it. If any of those is what you actually need, the address is the wrong product.

Where virtual office addresses are available in Tanzania — the cities and how many addresses in each

Tanzania has two virtual office addresses on Wezoo, and both are in Dar es Salaam. That is the whole national picture: one city, two addresses, no coverage in Dodoma, Arusha, Mwanza or Zanzibar.

Dar es Salaam 2 addresses
Rest of Tanzania 0 addresses
Districts covered Msasani Peninsula, Kinondoni

Both addresses sit north of the city centre, in the belt that runs from Msasani Peninsula down through Kinondoni. That is where most of Dar es Salaam’s international business, diplomatic missions and professional services sit, which is the practical reason the addresses are there and not in Kariakoo or Temeke.

If your business needs to be seen as based in Dar es Salaam, two addresses is enough to choose from. If you need an address in a specific up-country region because a client, tender or licence requires it, Tanzania is not yet a market where Wezoo can help you.

What a virtual office costs in Tanzania — and is there a free option?

Neither Tanzanian address publishes a price. That is normal for this product and it is not missing data: a virtual office is quoted on what you ask for, because the address on its own, the address plus mail handling, and the address plus occasional meeting room use are three different commitments with three different prices. Prices are on request, in Tanzanian shillings, from the building that holds the address.

When you ask, ask for the whole picture rather than the headline number. The questions that change the total are: is there a one-off setup fee, what is the minimum term, what happens to the price at renewal, is mail handling included or billed separately, and is there a deposit. A low monthly figure with a setup fee and a twelve-month minimum is not cheaper than a higher monthly figure you can cancel.

Is there a free virtual office in Tanzania? No, and you should be suspicious of anything presented as one. What does exist free of charge is a PO box from the Tanzania Posts Corporation, which is cheap and widely used here. But a PO box is a sorting slot, not an address: nobody is there to receive a visitor, sign for a courier delivery, or answer a phone, and it does not put your business in a building. The whole reason to pay for a virtual office rather than take a PO box is that something is behind the address.

This is worth saying plainly because the search data for Tanzania is dominated by people looking up the PO box numbers of banks, councils and universities. If what you need is somewhere for post to land, a PO box will do it for a fraction of the cost. A virtual office is for when you need the address itself to carry weight.

The two Wezoo virtual office addresses in Dar es Salaam

Both are operated by Regus. Here is what each one is, where it sits and what the building offers.

1. 429 Mahando Street — Dar es Salaam

429 Mahando Street by Regus

429 Mahando Street is a low-rise stone and glass building on Msasani Peninsula, the headland north of the city centre where most of Dar es Salaam’s embassies, NGOs and expatriate business sit. It is a quieter, greener setting than the Kinondoni corridor, and the address reads that way too.

The building is close to public transport and to a public parking area, so clients and couriers can reach it without a plan. On site there are breakout spaces you can use when you need to sit down with someone, and catering is available in the building.

Suited to: consultancies, NGOs and smaller international businesses that want a Dar es Salaam address in the diplomatic and professional quarter rather than in the commercial corridor.

2. Acacia Estates 84 — Dar es Salaam

Acacia Estates 84 is a six-storey office building on the Kinondoni corridor, the main commercial artery running north out of the city centre. It is the more corporate of the two addresses: a glass and stone tower on a signed, gated plot, which is what you want if the address will appear on contracts and tender documents.

The building carries the fuller services list of the two. There is on-site parking as well as public transport nearby, a lounge, a coffee and tea bar, catering, breakout spaces, and bike storage. It is also recorded as wheelchair accessible, which the other address is not, so if anyone visiting the address may need step-free entry this is the one to ask about.

Suited to: companies that want a recognisably commercial Dar es Salaam business address, and anyone who expects to visit the address themselves often enough that the lounge and parking matter.

Is a virtual office legal in Tanzania, and which addresses the registrar accepts

This is the question that brings most people to a page like this one, so here is an honest answer rather than a confident one.

We have not verified Tanzania’s company registration rules against primary sources, so this guide does not tell you whether a virtual office address will be accepted on a given form. We are not going to name an authority, quote a regulation or tell you the address is legally usable, because we have not read the law ourselves and an answer invented from how a neighbouring country works is worse than no answer.

What we can set out is the distinction that the question usually turns on, and the two places where you will get a real answer.

The distinction is between a correspondence address and a registered address. A correspondence address is simply where your business receives post and where clients find you: on your website, your invoices, your business cards, your Google listing. A registered address is the one you give to the authorities when you incorporate or license a business, and it carries obligations: official notices are served there and it is expected that something reaches you. Those two uses are regulated very differently almost everywhere, and a provider who can offer you the first has not automatically offered you the second.

The two places to get a real answer:

  • The operator of the building. The terms attached to each address, including what the address may and may not be used for, are set by the building’s operator, and your request goes through them. Ask the question directly when you make the request: can this address be used as my registered business address, and will you provide what I need to prove it.
  • The relevant Tanzanian authority, before you file anything. Check with the body you will actually be registering or licensing with, and get confirmation that the address and the documentation you have been offered are acceptable for your specific case. Business structures differ, and a rule that applies to a locally owned company may not apply to a foreign branch.

Do that in that order, and do it before you pay for the address rather than after.

Disclaimer: this section is general orientation and not legal advice. It does not state the law of Tanzania and it should not be relied on for a registration, licensing or tax decision. Verify your own situation with the competent Tanzanian authority and, where the stakes warrant it, with a qualified local adviser. Position as at 25 October 2026.

Who uses a virtual office — and who should not

A virtual office earns its cost in a narrow set of situations. In Tanzania, with two addresses both in Dar es Salaam, the set is narrower still.

It fits you if:

  • You are a consultant, freelancer or small firm working from home, and you do not want your home address printed on your invoices and website.
  • You are a foreign company testing the Tanzanian market and want a Dar es Salaam presence before committing to a lease and staff.
  • Your team is distributed or remote, and the business needs one fixed address that outlasts whoever is currently in the country.
  • You travel constantly and need post to land somewhere staffed rather than at an empty flat.

It does not fit you if:

  • You need somewhere to work. This is an address, not a desk. Look at a physical office in Tanzania instead.
  • You need an address outside Dar es Salaam. There is no Wezoo coverage elsewhere in the country.
  • You only need post to arrive somewhere and nothing more. A PO box is far cheaper and does that one job.
  • You need a guaranteed registered address today, with no time to check. The checks above take a few days and skipping them is how filings get rejected.

How to request a virtual office on Wezoo

Virtual offices are requested rather than booked instantly, because the terms attached to an address are agreed between you and the building before anything starts.

  1. Pick the address. Msasani Peninsula for a quieter professional and diplomatic setting, the Kinondoni corridor for a commercial one with fuller on-site facilities.
  2. Send the request through the address page. Say what you need the address for, specifically: correspondence only, or registration as well.
  3. Ask the three questions that are not on the listing: what mail handling is included and what it costs, whether the address may be used as a registered business address and what proof you will be given, and what the term, setup fee and notice period are.
  4. Verify before you file. Take the operator’s answer to the Tanzanian authority you will be registering with, and confirm it is acceptable for your case.
  5. Start using the address once the terms are agreed and your documentation is in hand.

If a desk, a lockable room or a floor is what you actually need, the companion guide to this one is office space in Tanzania, which covers the same two buildings as physical workspace, with capacity and pricing.

Tanzania is a thin market for this product, so it is worth knowing what sits next door. If your business operates across East Africa and the address does not have to be Tanzanian, there is deeper coverage in neighbouring markets: virtual offices in Kenya, roughly 650 km away and the regional hub for most international business in the area; virtual offices in Uganda, about 1,080 km away; and virtual offices in Ethiopia, about 1,760 km north. All three are English-language guides, so you will not land in another language.
