What is a registered office address, and why put it in London?
The registered office is the single statutory address of a limited company or LLP. Companies House and HMRC post official correspondence there, and it is published on the public register for anyone to look up. It is not where you have to work, and it is not necessarily where you trade.
London is the default choice for three reasons. Credibility: an EC or W1 postcode reads differently to a supplier running a credit check than a residential street. Privacy: it keeps a home address off a public database that scrapers copy daily. And practicality: if a director ever needs to attend the address, a Zone 1 building is reachable.
What London does not do is change your jurisdiction. A company registered in Scotland cannot use a London address — the Companies House rules on registered office addresses require the address to sit in the same UK jurisdiction as the registration. The trap is assuming the £29 tier handles your customer post. It does not. If you want commercial mail as well, you are buying a business address service in London, which is a different line item. One thing worth knowing before you pick a district: your address will be public forever, and it will appear on every invoice, letterhead and website footer you ever produce. Choose the postcode you want to still be defending in five years.
Does the address have a front door — or just a mailbox?
This is the question the £29 comparison pages never ask, and it is the one Companies House cares about. An address is only valid if it is appropriate: someone acting for the company must be made aware of post delivered there, and the sender must be able to get confirmation of delivery. A room full of pigeonholes struggles with the second half of that test.
So we ran the numbers on our own inventory. Of the 283 London addresses on Wezoo, 162 — 57% — are in buildings where you can also book a meeting room by the hour, at a median of £60. EC1M sits between the City and the West End, and it is the pragmatic choice: a credible London postcode without the Bishopsgate premium. Farringdon is now an Elizabeth line stop, so a same-day visit from Heathrow or Canary Wharf is realistic. How do you change your registered office to a London address?
Twenty minutes, no filing fee, five steps.
- Secure the address first. Complete the provider’s ID checks and get written permission to use the address. Companies House expects the address to be in place before you file.
- Sign in to Companies House WebFiling with your company authentication code. Paper filing works too, using form AD01, but it is slower.
- File the change. AD01 for companies, LLAD01 for LLPs. WebFiling submissions are typically processed within 24 hours.
- Do it within 14 days. That is the statutory deadline, and the new address only takes legal effect once Companies House registers it.
- Update everything else. HMRC, your bank, your website footer, your letterhead and your order forms. Companies House will not do any of that for you.

Historic filings keep showing the old address. If your home is already on the record, changing the registered office stops the bleeding but does not reverse it — you would need a separate suppression application.
