The median day rate in Downtown Los Angeles is $67. In Torrance it is $69. Two dollars — in the wrong direction. There is no suburban discount to collect and no downtown premium to escape, and we should say so plainly rather than sell you a saving that does not exist.
This is not a Torrance quirk. Los Angeles has no price gradient at all: measured across every priced building in the county, the correlation between distance from Downtown and the day rate is −0.09 — absent. The dearest submarket in the county (Century City, $104) has eleven bookable desks. One of the cheapest (Downtown, $67) has seventy. Price does not fall as you leave the centre, because Los Angeles does not really have a centre for it to fall from. The 405 does not buy you a cheaper desk. It buys you the ninety minutes you would have spent on it. That is the entire case for booking in the South Bay, and it is a good one — it is just not a pricing case. Commuter corridors elsewhere behave completely differently: in Connecticut, day rates fall steadily with every mile from Manhattan, which is why coworking in New Haven costs a third of what Greenwich charges. Southern California has no such line.
Where Torrance does beat the county: openness. Of every seat Wezoo lists in the three Torrance buildings, 8.7% is a bookable open desk rather than a leased private seat.
