Type coworking space in hotel UK into a search box and you are almost always solving one specific problem: you are away from home, the lobby has run out of plug sockets, and your next call starts in eleven minutes. A coworking space in hotel UK search is really a question about where to put yourself for the next six hours. This guide answers it with first-party numbers from Wezoo’s 421 UK coworking locations.

Wezoo does not list a single UK coworking location whose building name or operator identifies it as a hotel. Not one. So rather than invent a list that does not exist, this piece does something more useful: it compares what a hotel lobby gives you against what a booked desk gives you, shows you the access hours and day rates behind both, and names five buildings that solve the job a lobby is doing badly. For the wider picture, start with our complete guide to coworking in the UK.

Is there really a coworking space in hotel UK on Wezoo?

No, and the honest version of that answer is more helpful than a padded list would be. Every one of the 421 UK coworking addresses on Wezoo was checked against its building name and its operator name, and none of them reads as a hotel. The operators behind them are workspace companies: Regus runs 204 of the locations, Spaces runs 57 and HQ runs 45, with independents such as Clockwise, Wizu Workspace, Spacemade and Huckletree filling in the rest.

The two things get conflated for a reason. Hotel groups across Britain do sell lobby memberships, and some run dedicated work floors. What they sell is hospitality space with a desk in it. What a coworking building sells is work space with hospitality around it. Searches for a coworking space in hotel UK land somewhere between the two, so the rest of this guide gives you the comparison rather than a brand list.

Hotel lobby or booked desk: what really differs

Strip out the atmosphere and five things separate them. Two of the five favour the hotel.

What you are comparing Hotel lobby

Booked coworking desk

Hours Open late, open at weekends

None of the 421 UK locations lists weekend hours

Cost for a full day Whatever you buy to stay seated

From £11.88, most often £33.00

Taking a call The corridor, or your room

A phone booth is listed at 38 locations

Desk and chair A sofa and a low table

A desk and a chair built for a working day

Being there already You are upstairs

260 locations list public transport nearby

Read that table twice and the decision stops being about taste. A lobby is open when you need it. A desk is right when you are working. The question is which of those two you are short of today.

The 17:30 problem: why access hours decide this

Here is the finding that surprised us. Across all 421 UK coworking locations on Wezoo, every single hot-desk listing carries opening hours for Monday to Friday only. Not one lists a Saturday. Not one lists a Sunday. And not one closes later than 18:00.

The pattern inside the week is equally tight. 342 locations open at 08:30 and 69 open at 09:00, with six at 08:00 and a single outlier at 07:30. At the other end, 262 close at 17:30, 87 close at 18:00 and 70 close at 17:00. Work to an American client’s afternoon, or get going after bedtime, and the coworking building is shut while the hotel is not.

Every coworking building in the UK shuts before dinner. The hotel lobby does not. That one fact settles more coworking space in hotel UK searches than any amenity list, and it is why the answer is often both: a desk for the working day, the lobby for the evening overspill.

What does a coworking day pass cost in the UK?

418 of the 421 locations publish a day rate on Wezoo. The lowest listed is £11.88 a day at Boho 5 in Middlesbrough, and the highest listed is £143.88 a day at Clubhouse St James in London. In between, £33.00 is the rate that appears more often than any other, listed at 85 locations. One location lists only an hourly rate, and two list no price at all.

Compare that against a lobby. You are not charged to sit, you are charged to keep sitting, and the bill arrives in instalments of flat white and focaccia. Six hours of looking like a paying customer is rarely cheaper than a £33.00 desk, and it never comes with a phone booth. Our guide to what coworking space costs breaks the range down by city, and the guide to flexible workspace in the UK covers how day desks sit alongside day offices and meeting rooms.

Six checks before you swap the lobby for a desk

The lobby is not failing you at random. It is failing you on specific things, and those same things are listed unevenly across coworking buildings. Check these six before you book anything, because a coworking space in hotel UK search usually hides one of them.

Six checks, drawn from what the 421 UK coworking locations on Wezoo actually list.

Two of those numbers deserve a second look. A phone booth is listed at 38 of 421 locations, so the thing that drove you out of the lobby is missing from most coworking buildings too. Coffee or tea included in the rate is listed at just 40, although 380 list catering of some kind, so the drink is usually available and usually extra. Our guide to choosing a coworking space walks through the rest of the shortlisting.

Five UK buildings that do the job a hotel lobby does badly

None of these is in a hotel. Each was picked because it lists the specific things a lobby cannot give you, and because it sits where a traveller ends up. If your coworking space in hotel UK search started at a reception desk, start here instead. Every price is the lowest listed day rate including tax.

Does a hotel lobby count as a workstation?

Legally, it can. The Health and Safety Executive says the display screen equipment rules apply to mobile workers and to hot-deskers, and that people who change desks regularly should carry out a basic risk assessment. The rules bite when someone uses a screen daily for continuous periods of an hour or more, and HSE says they do not apply to infrequent or short use. An hour between trains is not the trigger. A fortnight of ten-hour days on a lobby sofa is.

The duty is older than hybrid working. Regulation 2 of the Health and Safety (Display Screen Equipment) Regulations 1992 requires every employer to perform a suitable and sufficient analysis of workstations used by its users, “regardless of who has provided them”. HSE adds that for people working with screens away from the office the assessment should cover every situation in which they work. None of that forbids the lobby. It means somebody should have looked at it.

The right to ask is settled too: all employees have the legal right to request flexible working, and where you work is one of the changes you can request. The Office for National Statistics reported in February 2023 that the share of working adults who had worked from home varied between 25% and 40% across 2022. That is the population behind a coworking space in hotel UK search.

When the hotel lobby is still the right call

Four situations, and none is an edge case. It is after 18:00 on a weekday, or it is Saturday, so no coworking building here is open. You have forty minutes and a laptop, so booking is more admin than the work. You are waiting on a colleague still in a meeting upstairs. Or you need to be visible to someone arriving, which a locked floor with a fob reader cannot do.

Book for the day you are having, not the day you planned. If you have not done many shared-desk days, our hot desking etiquette guide covers the unwritten part: calls, headphones and how long you can hold a desk you have walked away from.

Coworking space in hotel UK: frequently asked questions

Does Wezoo list a coworking space in hotel UK?

No. Across all 421 UK coworking addresses on Wezoo, no building name or operator name identifies the location as a hotel. The operators are workspace companies such as Regus, Spaces, HQ, Clockwise and Spacemade.

Can I work in a hotel lobby without being a guest?

Usually yes, provided you buy something and the space is not reserved for residents. It is a courtesy rather than a booking, which is why it fails at the moments you most need it: busy check-in periods, private events, and any call you would rather nobody overheard.

What is the cheapest coworking day rate in the UK?

The lowest listed on Wezoo is £11.88 at Boho 5 in Middlesbrough, and the highest listed is £143.88 at Clubhouse St James in London. £33.00 appears more often than any other rate, at 85 of the 418 locations that publish one.

Are UK coworking spaces open at weekends?

Not on the hot-desk listings. None of the 421 UK locations publishes Saturday or Sunday hot-desk hours, and none closes later than 18:00. Monthly members may get out-of-hours access at some buildings, but that is a different product from a day pass.

Which UK coworking buildings have phone booths?

A phone booth is listed at 38 of the 421 UK locations. Of the five picks above, Royal House, The Gatehouse, Clockwise Edinburgh Leith and Venture X White City all list one. If calls are why you are leaving the lobby, filter for this first.
